The 'ideal' body weight calculator is supplied as part of the PowerCalc Cyclists Power Calculator v2.4 onwards.
The ideal body weight calculator can be opened by selecting Weight Watchers then Ideal Body Weight from the Tools menu. The IBW calculator calculates an 'ideal' body weight required to achieve a different body fat percentage, based on your existing weight and body fat percentage: |
The method given in ref 14 is as follows:
1. Determine fat weight in lbs
FatWeightlbs = (CurrentWeightLbs * (CurrentBodyFatPercent / 100))
2. Determine the lean weight
LeanWeightLbs = CurrentWeightLbs - FatWeightlbs
3. Determine percent of lean desired
DesiredLeanPercent = 100 - DesiredBodyFatPercent
4. Determine IBW Based on the desired lean weight
IdealBodyWeightLbs = leanWeightLbs / (desiredLeanPercent / 100)
Which simplifies to:
IdealBodyWeightLbs = (currentWeightLbs - currentWeightLbs * (CurrentBodyFatPercent / 100)) / ((100 - DesiredBodyFatPercent) / 100)
NOTE:- You don't necessarily have to loose weight, or eat less in order to decrease your body fat percentage as this calculator might suggest. Exercising more and eating the same or possibly eating even more to fuel the extra exercise might well have the same effect of reducing body fat % whilst remaining the same weight, or perhaps even gaining some weight and strength instead. If in doubt consult your doctor.
