The Plothermuckers Are At It Again!

The Bristol to Bath Cycle Path has been closed again by South Gloucestershire Council.

Cycle track diversion signs Click for an enlargement of the sign Cyclists traveling from Bristol, towards Bath are confronted with these diversion signs. The sign points to the old diversion for the cycle track which was diverted around South Gloucestershire Councils new ring road. Some old pictures showing the terrain are here. However riders are currently advised to ignore this sign!
Cycle track blocked by fences Keep riding up to the fence (see left) and there is an un marked path around the roadworks to the right of the picture (not shown). Its a bit bumpy, and the view of all the mechanical diggers isn't very pretty but its still rather quicker and easier than the signposted diversion!
Cycle track diversion signs Riders cycling towards Bristol from Bath are confronted by the diversion sign shown on the left. This isn't the same route as the signposted diversion above. Its worse - it takes you to Warmley and/or the ring road. Riders are currently advised to ride streight past and look for a new turning on the left. This is the other end of the un-signposted diversion reccomended above.
Bicycle path blocked by fence You will know if you have gone too far because of this blockage! In between the fences is the world famous "wheel with missing spokes" sculpture

UPDATE 8th Aug 2005: The signs have now been moved to more sensible locations. Riders using the diversion might see some evidence that the traffic cones are building a supergun!
