The Machinehead Music Player is a jukebox system fors CD Audio, wav, mp3 and version 0.3.4 onwards now supports wma and midi files. Allows optional pauses for minidisk player to syncronise with. The main reason for writing this program was because I couldn't find anything in the software that came bundled "free" with my sound card would pause between tracks so when I record a CD onto a minidisk the whole damn thing gets flagged as "Track 1"
The volume control goes up to 11 because 11 is better than 10!
You can drag n drop mp3, wav files from anywhere on your hard drive. can drag n drop .cda files from any valid audio CD and there is no limit on the number of CD drives it can use (except obviously the limits imposed by your hardware and operating system). Music files (including CD Audio - even though they aren't really music files) can be played in any order. The usual random, track, cycling, album modes are supported
Graphic above shows music player running under Windows ME, on an AMD ATHLON (1.8GHZ), equipped with a Soundlaster Audegy card. Other systems & sound cards are uncertain as some of the code might be a little bit hardware specific (but you can allways click on remove if it doesn't work). Feel free to try it and let me know the details of your system along with how well it works or not as the case may be. Works lovely with my Audegy card 8-)
Version 0.4 onwards now supports (in the File menu) renaming, copying and deletion of the currently highlighted file in the play list. Please note the delete function is a real delete (to the recycle bin) rather than a remove option that simply removes the files listing from the play list. A useful range of remove options appear in the [play list], [remove tracks] sub menu. I feel this point is worth stressing because I have in the past met some terminally stupid people who insisted that the words remove and delete have exactly the same meaning. When you delete that music track that you always hated, its listing will also be removed from the play list.
Also new with v0.4 onwards are some handy file copying functions that I use for recharging my mp3 player: [Play list],[Copy listed files] has two sub menu items [normal copy] and [preserve list sequence]. The first copies the listed files creating a clone of the required directory structure, the second copies everything into the same directory but gives each file a numeric prefix so that the mp3 player will play the tracks in the order listed rather than alphabetical order.
Note:- version 0.5.1 is just like v0.4 in functionality. The big difference is that v0.4 used the Microsoft animation control that ships with VB for its progress dialog. This bloated the install set somewhat and consequently 0.4 was only shipped to registered users on CD. In version 0.5 I have replaced this with a much smaller asynchronous animation handler of my own.
http://www.machinehead-software.co.uk/zips/32bit/install/MusicPlayer0_5_1.zip (1.864MB) Full install set for version 0.5.1 of Music Player ;-)
Please note if you are already running an older version of the Music Player than v0.5.1 you need to remove your old program then re-install with the above set to upgrade. This is because the install set is different to 0.3.x and o.4.x.
Not suitable for 16 bit operating systems such as Windows 3.1x (See also: operating system compatibility)
Works brilliantly well on an AMD ATHLON running Windows ME with a Soundblaster Audegy card - other systems - please let me know... This is a beta release with no restrictions on the demo. Report a problem, along with details of your OS and hardware and it might just get fixed, don't and it definitely won't.
This program re-uses some of the functionality of Windows Media Player, so don't expect it to work unless you have got this installed. For licensing and band width reasons Windows Media Player is NOT included in the above installation set. However if you haven't got it installed you can install it from your Windows CD or get the latest version free from the Microsoft site.
